Coffee For The Troops

It has been a hair-raising, gut-twisting couple of weeks (Can anyone say Citi and REO in the same sentence without reaching for a blood pressure cuff lately?) - however, last Friday, I had the chance to help my broker get ready for an interview about her part in helping Starbucks get coffee to the troops in Afghanistan & Iraq.  Sure helped my mood to see how businesses can work together to do something good for someone else.

Here's a short video to see Paula Sindelar (Broker/Owner of The Pepper Group Diversified Real Estate) and Elayne Canterbury (Tucson District Manager for Starbucks) and the TON of coffee that is going to the troops:

Local baristas encouraged customers to purchase a 1/4 pound, pound or even whole 5-pound bags and write a note to the troops overseas directly on it.  In May of last year, over 500 lbs were shipped in the "Coffee For The Troops" promotion.  Encouraged by their success, the intrepid Starbucks associates managed to collect over 2,000 lbs from Tucson coffee lovers as a way to show their support for our troops.

Paula's brother, Eric Swisher, works for Northrup Grumman, and convinced them to help by including the coffee in their supply shipments to the Iraq & Afghanistan theaters of operations.  Eric also helped by donating a dozen grinders.

F-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c job, everyone...and thank you to the men & women of the armed forces.
