Tucson Kent's World: Arizona Desert Becoming Magnet For Green Building

Arizona Desert Becoming Magnet For Green Building

Over the past 6 months I have received more and more requests for information about "Building Green" in Arizona.

Here is a list of some links to resources that I have passed onto others with whom I have corresponsed:

AZ Green Directory   Sustainable Arizona  GreenSource

Tucson Water Greywater Info    AZ Green Building Council

I will be adding to this list in order to have a more comprehensive group in one post--suggested additions are welcome!

True story! I am representing a Client with an energy efficient home that was developed in the Tucson area. Several hundred were built in that area and Mexico.

Now that's amazing in itself, Chuck--glad I could contribute!

What kind of design is your client using, Don?

Arizona adobe and overhandArizona has a wonderful native architectural style that is perfectly suited to modern green building. Thick walls to stay cool in the summer, big porch overhangs for shade, and plenty of sun for the photovoltaics on the roof. The early Spanish settlers really had it figured out pretty well.

Anasazi passive solar cliff dwellingsIf you want to go back even farther, the Anasazi were building with passive solar 1,000 years ago.
